Is Search Engine Optimisation Really FREE?
If you need a steady increase in the flow of traffic to your website, you are probably interested in Search Engine Optimisation or SEO as it is known. The Internet is awash with information, rumours and lies about Search Engine Optimisation. It’s hard to know what to believe. SEO can be used to get the edge over your competition; so many businesses are desperate to make the most out of every Natural Search/SEO possibility.
Increasing the potential of Natural Search by using SEO is a vital element of any successful blended internet marketing strategy. PPC (or Pay per Click) may well bring in a good conversion, but each click has a cost attached. Two-thirds of all professional marketing experts questioned believed that investment in Natural Search is excellent value for money.
But how is it possible to place a monetary value on the results of Natural Search? A professional SEO service will be able to provide you with the most up to date information on valuing each visit that comes through Natural Search and compare it to your Paid Search data. Calculating the value of Natural Search is fundamentally different from Paid Search. The opportunity cost of not engaging in high quality SEO and receiving the best Natural Search results could be huge and hand a significant slice of the market to your competitors.
Imagine that your conversion rate was 3% and your average order value was £20. If you had 8000 unique visits, you would expect £4800 in sales per day. What was the cost of that day’s sales? Practically nothing. That’s hard to argue with. Optimising a site is a low cost way to increase the visiting traffic to your site.
The problem is that some people believe they can do their own SEO work. They aim to save money by engaging in a spot of DIY optimisation. There’s plenty of advice, pointers and step-by-step guides available free online, so, why shouldn’t they avoid ‘unnecessary’ costs? If it can all be done for free, why would you pay a professional SEO to do it?
What many of these people don’t understand is that it is relatively easy to cause inadvertent damage to your SEO. Buying cheap links, optimising the site for the wrong keywords or keyword stuffing, over-optimising, breaking Search Engine submission policy, getting your site banned from Google and generally wasting time on unsuccessful and unnecessary optimisation processes. All this will decrease the quantity of visitors, and decrease your potential daily income. This is the real cost of FREE Search Engine Optimisation.
To get professional results from SEO, you need a professional SEO expert. Why? A Professional SEO has the training, background knowledge, latest up to date info and adding a professional SEO service into your marketing mix will save you time and money in the end. Professional SEOs use tried and tested techniques, based on their knowledge of search engines and human search psychology. Without a professional SEO, you are taking risks with your company’s income. Is that a risk you’re willing to take?

How can i get people to find out about my website without paying big money for Search engine optimisation?
How can i get my website to come up on the first pages of search engines for free and without pay per click (which is a total waste of money)?
As far as I am aware search engines look for the following meta tags in your site index.
<meta name="description" content="Yahoo! Answers is a new way to find and share information. You can ask questions on any topic, get answers from real people, and share your insights and experience." />
<meta name="keywords" content="answers, questions, questions and answers, information, health questions"/>
And apart from that there is not a lot you can do, but i am open to further suggestions.

Have you used (meta tags),they are words that search engines use to find web sites. example would be a site for holidays and the tags would be something like (Hotel ,beach, sea, sand) that sort of thing

The Golden Question.
I would concentrate on Google…..
Tyr to get as many sites as possible to link to your site. Google like this at it shows relevance.
Make sure youre Metatags are relative to the text within your site. For example wine, glass, shop, tasting, shiraz…. should have the same sort of wording within the the site.
Often people just throw up a pile of metatags which they think relate to the site and they do not appear anywhere within the content.
Make sure you have submitted the site to the search engines.
What kind of site is it…

SEO is a big business but it is possible to get high in the search engines depending for what keywords.
Many people say "I’m number 1 in google", but what’s the point if you’re number one for "Green Elephant Shoes".
You want to be on the front page for a medium traffic search term relevant to your site.
Say you sell cars. You ain’t going to get to number one for "cars" nor "cars for sale" on your own. Try "second hand cars in CITYNAME" or something similar or longer.
Then submit your site to directories of a similar theme.

Always use the keyword as you link text !A HREF=""! second hand cars in CITYNAME !A!
With respect to your comments about PPC you are truly wrong.
PPC can put you on the front page of google in less than a minute. SEO can take months.

A few preliminary remarks:
1) WebSITES don’t rank in the search engines, rather webPAGES do. Most websites have numerous webpages, and each webpage has the potential to show up in the search results of the major search engines (i.e., Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.com).
2) Sites show up in the search engines after someone searches for a particular keyword (a keyword is a short, 2 – 5 word phrases — also known as search terms). This means that what we really want to know is what do we have to do to help a particular webpage rank well in the search engine for a particular keyword phrase.
3) Not all webpages and keywords are equally valuable when it comes to ranking well in the search engine. Some keyword phrases are more popular than other keyword phrases, some less so. Some keyword phrases are more relevant to your product and services, some less so. It is important to clarify your goals for ranking well so that you can gain the maximum benefit from showing up in the search engine results.
With that said, here is an article which summarizes the steps you need to take to rank well in the search engines: http://www.sembasics.com/sem-blog/the-se...
The site contains other articles which explain in-depth how to do each of the steps outlined in the article (those tutorials can be reached here: http://www.sembasics.com/sem-blog/search...
Here is a brief outline of the article:
1) Create a search engine friendly website (proper use of HTML code, good URLs, etc.). If the search engines can’t process your site, you can’t rank well, no matter what else you do — your site will essentially be invisible to them.
2) Good keyword research — find the words and phrases that your customers use to search for your products, organize those keywords according to popularity and competition.
3) Create web pages each of which is focused around 1 – 2 keywords.
4) Get high-quality links from related, high-quality sites which link directly to the appropriate web page. This is perhaps the most important part of ranking well in the search engine, although it’s effectiveness is determined by how well you do the other steps in this process.
5) Track and analyze your optimization results so as to improve the effectiveness of your optimization campaign.
